IntroductionGrand Mercure Petra Beit Zaman, opened September 2000, is a renovated authentic 19th century village, known as Khirbet Al Nawafleh, in Wadi Musa, transformed into this deluxe resort. The refurbishment of the old village houses was carried out in keeping with the original architectural style while providing the luxury and comfort required by the modern traveller. New add-on buildings were designed to complete the services and facilities required in modern resort hotels, by keeping the style of existing structures and in harmony with the village type setting. The village contains 2 old olive presses both of which were consolidated, as well as an old roman aqueduct in a small half-private courtyard, where, in the old days the villagers would gather to enjoy the sunset, while drinking tea or smoking the Narjileh. Scattered in different parts of the village are olive trees, vineyards, figs and citrus trees. The hotel is located a mile south of the ancient Nabatean rose-red city of Petra, and archaeological remnants from Nabatean, Byzantine, and the beginning of Islam were discovered during the construction of the hotel. As a result, there will be an archaeological museum by the main entrance of the village.
