Jordan & Syria: The Ancient Lands Group tour...

Great Colonnade, Palmyra

11 days/10 nights
Group tour from £2055 per person
Independent tour from £3145 per person

Escorted Group or Private Journey • Ancient Petra • Souqs of Damascus • Palmyra's Temple of Bel
Jordan and Syria contain some of the finest classical sites, dramatic Crusader castles and vibrant souqs in the Middle East. Syria was influenced by the Classical Mediterranean world, as seen at Palmyra, whereas Jordan's greatest legacy is Petra, built by the Nabataeans. The tour also explores the region's religious legacy, visiting the Crusader castles of Kerak and Crac des Chevaliers.

2011 Itinerary...

Day 1 To Damascus: Fly from London to Damascus with bmi. Transfer to the Turquoise Hotel for 2 nights. (N)

Day 2 Damascus: Today is spent exploring SyriaÕs capital city, visiting the Umayyad Mosque, Azem Palace, the tiny Chapel of Ananias and the maze of covered souqs. (B, D)

Day 3 To Palmyra: Morning drive to Palmyra. Afternoon tour of Palmyra. Stay overnight at the Dedeman Hotel, Palmyra or similar. (B, D)

Day 4 To Aleppo via Hama & Apamea: Complete your sightseeing of Palmyra before driving to Aleppo, stopping en route at the Graeco-Roman site of Apamea and Hama. Stay at the Beit Salahieh, Aleppo for 2 nights. (B, D)

Day 5 St SimeonÕs & Aleppo: Morning drive to the Church of St. Simeon, where the saint allegedly lived chained to the top of a stone column for 42 years. Return to Aleppo to tour this beautiful city, dominated by the huge citadel, and explore the souqs. (B, D)

Day 6 To Damascus via Crac des Chevaliers & Maalula: Morning drive to the castle of Crac des Chevaliers. Continue to the village of Maalula where Aramaic, the language of Jesus, is still spoken. Stay for 1 night at the Safir Al Sayedah Zeinab, Damascus. (B, D)
