This tour of Jordan offers an opportunity to experience the wilder side of the country, ideal for second time visitors or those looking to explore further off the beaten track. The itinerary focuses on Jordan’s natural beauty and, with a walk through Dana Nature Reserve and a night’s camping in the spectacular Wadi Rum desert, you will experience some of the country’s most varied and dramatic scenery.

Itinerary

Day 1 To Amman: Fly from London to Amman with Royal Jordanian Airlines. Transfer to the Kempinski Hotel for 2 nights. (N)
Day 2 Jerash: Morning visit to the remarkably-preserved Roman site of Jerash. Afternoon at leisure. (B)
Day 3 To Dana: Morning drive to Dana via Madaba, home to a Byzantine map of the region, and Mount Nebo, from where Moses first viewed the Holy Land. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy a walk in Dana Nature Reserve. Stay at Dana Guesthouse for 1 night. (B, D)
Day 4 To Feynan: Full day 15km hike along the Wadi Dana trail to Feynan. Stay at the Feynan Eco Lodge for 1 night. (B, L, D)
Day 5 To Petra: Morning drive to Petra. Stay at Beit Zaman for 2 nights. Afternoon at leisure. (B)
Day 6 Petra: Today there will be a guided tour of Petra, the ‘rose-red’ city rediscovered by J.L. Burckhardt in 1812. (B)
Day 7 Petra & Wadi Rum: Morning at leisure to explore Petra (your entrance ticket is included). Afternoon drive to Wadi Rum for a sunset 4 x 4 jeep ride. Stay in a private desert camp for 1 night. (B, D)
Day 8 To Dead Sea: Drive to the Dead Sea via the 12th century Crusader castle of Kerak. Stay at the Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea for 2 nights. (B)
Day 9 Dead Sea: Day at leisure or optional half day excursion to Wadi el Mujib to walk the 5km Ibex Trail. (B)
Day 10 To London: Morning transfer to the airport. Fly from Amman to London with Royal Jordanian Airlines. (B)

Discovery Tour: This tour should be considered adventurous and involves walking over rough terrain with some steep ascents and descents. A good level of fitness is required. Accommodation in Dana Nature Reserve should be considered basic. Feynan Eco Lodge does not have electricity and at night is lit entirely by candlelight. Accommodation and facilities at the desert camp are very basic - there is no electricity or running water. A portable toilet will be available. The dome tent will include small mattresses and sleeping bags, though you may wish to sleep outside under the stars. Dinner and breakfast can be taken outdoors on the sand or at your traditional Bedouin tent.

Dana Guest House, Dana Nature Reserve

Perched on the edge of Wadi Dana, the Dana Guest House offers breathtaking views of the reserve, comfortable rooms, traditional Arabic food and friendly service. It contains nine bedrooms, most with private terraces. Please note that some rooms are not ensuite.Accommodation at this guest house should be considered basic.

Feynan Eco Lodge, Dana Nature Reserve

Entirely isolated on the western edge of the Dana Reserve, Feynan Eco Lodge offers guests a unique opportunity to experience the surrounding area by foot. Managed by the RSCN in partnership with the local Bedouin community, the lodge is built in a traditional design and lit entirely by candlelight. Rooms are basic but comfortable with private facilities and hot and cold water - heated using solar panels. There is a small restaurant serving a set menu of vegetarian Arabic dishes. There are numerous trails and hikes from the lodge into Dana Reserve.
